  • FASTENER POLAND® – the fastener industry celebration is now over

Posted in Fairs and exhibitions, Fastener suppliers, Fasteners manufacturers on Nov 14, 2023

Two days of industry meetings, thousands of conversations, guests from dozens of countries, an expert conference, novelties and premieres. This is how the 6th edition of the International Trade Fair for Fastener and Fixing Technology FASTENER POLAND® looked. Exhibitors and visitors leaving EXPO Kraków after the trade fair commented very positively about it. They paid attention primarily to specific and substantive conversations and the high business potential of the FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair.

    _ILE7472.jpg

Even before the first customers arrived at EXPO Krakow, it was known that this year's edition of the FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair would be successful in many respects. 150 producers and distributors from 15 countries presented their offers, including 77% of exhibitors from abroad. The statistics regarding visitors are even more interesting. Of the 3,258 people who visited the fair, 45% were from abroad, from 42 countries. Most visitors came to the fair from Italy, the Czech Republic and Ukraine, but there were also guests from such distant countries as India, Taiwan, Brazil and China. The international business atmosphere was visible every step of the way at EXPO Kraków.

A novelty of this year's edition of the trade fair was the zone of fasteners for the energy, electrical engineering and renewable energy sources sectors. Poland is among the top ten countries in the world in terms of the size of the photovoltaics market, and in Europe we are third after Germany and Spain. The industry has recorded continuous increases in sales and is developing dynamically, so the demand for specialised components is constantly growing. It was these, innovative and meeting the highest quality standards, that were presented in the zone dedicated to energy.

The high level of business meetings and the potential that the FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair brings to the development of the fastener industry are confirmed by the opinions of our exhibitors. Mr. Tomasz Karwowski, Commercial Director of DROMET Sp. z o. o. Sp. k. appreciates, above all, the opportunity to meet many new customers – (...) our main goal is to meet new customers – – customers from outside our country. Every year we manage to achieve this goal. I'm very happy with this. Among the foreign customers who visited our stand this year were also those with whom we had not had contact before.

An important and interesting aspect is noted by Andrea Villa, Vice-President of the Management Board of EUROFIX Italia – (...) The FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair is not as large as other events in the world, but it is very specialised, which means that I have time to talk to every client. I can spend several minutes talking to him and discuss in detail all the issues that interest him. This is very important for us.

An indispensable element of the FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair is the industry conference. Each year, the most current topics for the industry are discussed. This time the main theme was ecology and economics in the fastener industry, and the challenges and opportunities they entail. The most discussed issue was the CBAM. New regulations and the changes related to their introduction are another challenge for entrepreneurs importing products from outside the EU. They are an element of the broadly understood green revolution that we are all witnessing, which results not only in challenges, but also in opportunities for entrepreneurs. The development of ecological and economic construction and renewable energy sources requires access to fasteners that meet the highest quality standards. The market responds to these needs by designing and delivering the best solutions with increased resistance to the difficult conditions in which these systems are used. All these problems were discussed by respected experts, and the conference enjoyed great interest among visitors and exhibitors alike.

The next edition of the only trade fair for fasteners and fixing techniques in this part of Europe will take place next year. We invite you to plan your participation and follow preparations for the trade fair on our social media profiles and on the website fastenerpoland.pl/en

  • FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair - no 1 in Central and Eastern Europe

Posted in Fairs and exhibitions, Fastener suppliers, Fasteners manufacturers on Sep 19, 2023

Transformed supply chains and international cooperation networks, the war in Ukraine, an increase in production costs, the introduction of carbon tariffs (CBAM), competition with countries with low production costs, smooth adaptation to changing customer needs, investments in innovation and new technologies - these are the topics that manufacturers and distributors will discuss during the FASTENER POLAND® International Trade Fair of Fastener and Fixing Technology. The 6th edition of the event will take place on October 18-19, 2023 at EXPO Krakow, and the theme will be ecology.

    BANNER.png

The entire industry in one place

The FASTENER POLAND® is the only international fair of fasteners organized in Central and Eastern Europe - a key forum for exchanging experiences, learning about new products, as well as building effective trade relations between companies from around the world. The pandemic has shown very clearly that face-to-face meetings cannot be replaced in business. FASTENER POLAND® is back to its pre-pandemic state. In October, over 150 companies from 15 countries will present their offer. They will present the most modern industrial fasteners and fittings (from screws, through rivets to nuts, pins or wedges), construction fasteners (anchors, concrete screws, fixing facades and insulation), advanced assembly and installation systems (with the presentation of the latest riveting devices, screwdrivers and screw insertion systems or assembly brackets), as well as technologies for the production of fasteners and devices for their storage and distribution.

We connect buyers from all over the world

The fair will be visited by buyers from industries that use fasteners for the production of their products. This year, the organizers direct the promotional campaign especially to industries with the greatest potential. Photovoltaics, automotive, aviation and the medical industry are sectors with the greatest demand for all types of fasteners and fixings. Poland is among the top ten countries in the world in terms of the size of the photovoltaic market. In Europe, only Germany and Spain are ahead of us in this regard. The industry records continuous sales increases and is developing dynamically. Therefore, the demand for components is growing, in particular for specialized and quality fasteners. The fasteners market responds to these needs by designing and delivering the best solutions with enhanced resistance to difficult conditions in which solar systems are used. Several dozen manufacturers will present their solutions on a special zone dedicated to this industry.

Bleisure - combining business with spare time

We believe that success begins with meetings, therefore organizers encourage everyone interested in expanding business contacts to participate in the fair. In addition to free invitations to the fair, a program combining business travel with leisure was developed. Trend Bleisure - a word created from the combination of the words "business" and "leisure" - is the key message of the strategy implemented by Targi w Krakowie Ltd. Participants of the fair will be inspired by the map of attractions, which will include recommended accommodation, local restaurants, monuments, climatic places and cultural centers. And since there is no shortage of interesting places in Krakow, the organizers are sure that some customers will extend their stay by additional days.

Bad Mergentheim/Main-Tauber-Kreis. At the sixth Expert forum C-Parts management, distinguished keynote speakers from industry, trade, science and consulting ensured a top-class exchange. On Tuesday, 13th June and Wednesday, 14th June 2023, 350 participants from 7 countries gathered together in the Würth Industrial Park in Bad Mergentheim at Würth Industrie Service GmbH & Co. KG to discuss trends, innovations and global challenges in the industry.

    1.jpg

“Since our first expert forum in 2017, we have welcomed over 2,400 guests from across Germany and all over the world to our company location in Bad Mergentheim. The focus is on exchanging valuable ideas on solutions for a secure, resilient supply of production and operating materials as well as on significant impulses on market trends and global challenges. This not only results in intensive discussions, valuable business networks and long-term collaborations, but also in customer-oriented innovations. In this way, we ensure that our customers have their focus on the future.," says Martin Jauss, CEO of Würth Industrie Service GmbH & Co. KG.

In the face of Industry 4.0, the companies have to deal with changing markets. It is no longer just automation and digitalisation that concern the industry. There are also global issues across all countries and continents: the ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, a volatile situation in the procurement markets, climate change and raw material shortages, geopolitical disputes, increasing inflation and a worsening shortage of qualified employees. Leading experts from industry, trade, science and consulting talked about the steps that need to be taken to be able cope with these developments at this year's expert forum. While Univ. Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Horst Wildemann, TCW Management GmbH & Co. KG, spoke about the importance of resilient corporate management with a special focus on its effects in the supply chain, David Reger, CEO & Founder at Neura Robotics GmbH, took up another important topic in his lecture on "Cognitive robots – a new era of human-machine collaboration”, where he focused on the future of a new, changed world of work. In addition, Franz Kühmayer, Expert for Leadership and New Work at Zukunftsinstitut GmbH as well as CEO at Reflections Research & Consulting, contributed to numerous thought-provoking impulses for further discussions regarding possible potentials of medium-sized companies with his expert lecture “Opportunity of the century for medium-sized companies: Hidden champions or true heroes of the future?”. As visionary trend researchers, top managers and consultants, all speakers pursued the goal of presenting concrete ideas, concepts, measures and successful practical examples from industry, trade and science – true to the motto “Designing the future together”.

    2.jpg

Learning from the experts: a holistic approach to C-Parts management.

With intelligent system solutions, Würth Industrie Service implements optimal supply concepts for production materials as well as for auxiliary and operating materials such as occupational safety, tools or chemical items. Not only does this reduce the procurement effort, optimise processes and reduce costs, but also achieves maximum time savings with maximum delivery reliability and the lowest possible capital commitment. The participants were able to experience how this can be achieved live on site at an accompanying technical exhibition. One of the absolute highlights: The Smart Workplace. With Smart Workplace, walking unnecessarily, searching for parts and manually tracking the requirements are now things of the past! In the assembly workplace of the future, man and machine work hand in hand.  Thanks to numerous options for individual workplace design in combination with connected, intelligent supply solutions, driverless transport systems and worker assistance systems, the C-Parts supply of the future is a success. CPS®miSELF, intelligent solution for digital supply management, proves how A-, B- and C-Parts can also be managed with just one system. It enables industrial customers to combine different suppliers in a single solution and tried and tested hardware while at the same time using the service of Würth Industrie Service for items outside the Würth product range. Just pure innovation! Also during a tour of the logistics at one of the most modern logistics centres for industrial supply in Europe, the participants were able to get a personalised insight into the implementation of automation and digitalisation on an area of more than 65,000 square metres. At this year's Expert forum C-Parts management too, promising innovations were brought to the fore and the participants were able to make valuable contacts and establish networks. Now, true to the motto “Designing the future together”, it is a matter of actively taking charge of it. Because innovators do not wait for change, they drive it.

  • BUMAX continues to deliver fasteners that are out of this world

Posted in Aerospace fasteners, Fasteners manufacturers, Industry 4.0, Innovation on May 15, 2023

[Åshammar, Sweden, May 12, 2023.] Specialist fastener manufacturer BUMAX has been selected to provide crucial fasteners to be used on the International Space Station (ISS). BUMAX 88 fasteners will be used to secure a new payload going to the ISS to measure the speed of sound.

BUMAX premium fasteners include some of the strongest in the world and are being used in a variety of extremely demanding and cutting-edge scientific applications, such as at the scientific research institute CERN in Switzerland and for the world’s largest optical telescope in northern Chile.

The space sector continues to benefit from the BUMAX fastener range with various applications. BUMAX extra strong and fatigue resistant model 88 has been selected to securely fasten the housing of a new payload on the ISS called Granular Sound.

The customer is OHB System AG, a subsidiary of the European space and technology group OHB SE, under contract of the European Space Agency (ESA). OHB SE is a European multinational technology corporation. Headquartered in Bremen, Germany, the corporation consists of the three business divisions: Space Systems, Aerospace and Digital. At present, OHB is the third largest corporation in Europe's space sector.

    International Space Station.jpg

”To avoid glass balls flying around the ISS”

Granular Sound is an experiment in space to measure the speed of sound through a cube filled with glass balls (a so-called package) in microgravity at different package pressures. The experiment uses thousands of glass balls to simulate granular media like sand or concrete.

“The housing of this package will be securely fastened by BUMAX 88 fasteners to avoid the balls from flying around the ISS,” said Lukas Pfeiffer, Project Manager & Systems Engineer at OHB System AG. “The microgravity experiment will provide valuable data for various terrestrial and space applications – from more effective concrete processing to 3D printing in space or on the moon.”

The enhanced properties of BUMAX 88 fasteners are achieved through a combination of unique BUMAX manufacturing processes and the highest quality European steel.

    Monitoring air quality for astronauts

Since January 2022, BUMAX 88 screws have also been used for the ANITA-2 trace gas monitoring system to ensure good air quality for the ISS astronauts. The system has been simultaneously measuring more than 40 gases every six minutes on the ISS. The system was developed by OHB System AG. BUMAX 88 screws were used for the ANITA-2 payload to securely seal a safety containment and fasten crucial optical components.

“Being trusted with supplying fasteners for projects such as CERN and ISS, which are essential to the evolution of mankind, is of course a source of immense pride and a testament to the quality of our products and BUMAX as a whole,” said Lars Holm, Managing Director, BUMAX. “Being chosen again and again for the most demanding applications means that all our existing and new customers can rest assured that they are getting the best of the best.

The International Space Station was launched in 1998 to gain more knowledge about space. It is crewed by up to seven people. The ISS orbits the Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometers and a speed of 28,000 km/h, which means it orbits the Earth every 90 minutes.

  • Bulten closes manufacturing plant in the UK

Posted in Fasteners manufacturers, Industry 4.0 on Dec 15, 2022

In order to streamline the operation and improve profitability, Bulten has decided to close its manufacturing plant in Pembroke, UK. The closure means that 50 jobs are at risk of redundancy.

The closing-down process will begin with immediate effect, and the plan is to complete the process during the second quarter of 2023. Total restructuring costs amount to approximately SEK 11 million, of which SEK 9 million are reserved for the current year. There will be additional investments totaling about SEK 12 million in connection with the closure. These primarily relate to relocation of equipment and production to Bulten’s other manufacturing plants, along with a few new recruitments.

“It is unfortunately difficult to achieve profitability with the mix of products made in Pembroke, and also volumes are relatively low. By moving the parts of production that have long-term potential to our other plants, we can achieve better efficiency and thereby higher profitability. This is in line with our strategy, which includes better utilization of our production network,” says Anders Nyström, President and CEO of Bulten Group.

The operation in Pembroke became part of Bulten Group in 2020 with the acquisition of PSM International. Fifty people are currently employed at the plant, manufacturing and purchasing fasteners for different industrial segments. Bulten’s other operations in the UK will not be affected by the closure of the Pembroke plant.

  • EJOT withdraws from business in Russia

Posted in Fasteners manufacturers, Industry 4.0, Rivets on Jul 07, 2022

Sale of the national company Wostok

    Teaser-Russland.png

After a lengthy review, the management of the EJOT Group, in consultation with the Advisory Board, has decided to withdraw from the Russian business. In view of the great suffering and the unbelievable destruction caused by the Russian aggressors in Ukraine, there will be no economic "business as usual" in the near future.

In all these considerations we have to take into account that we have a duty of care towards our 70 colleagues of the EJOT subsidiary in Wostok and that we also fulfil this duty - as far as we are able to do so in this difficult situation. This problem is faced by many of the Western companies represented in Russia and thus model solutions crystallise, which are often pursued after weighing up the advantages and disadvantages.

One of these solutions is the sale of the EJOT company in Russia to the local management. Its advantage is the possibility of securing the employment of the Russian employees for a longer period of time. To this end, we have held the necessary talks and completed the sale of EJOT Wostok.

For this purpose, we have allowed the national company EJOT Wostok the use of trademark rights for the contract period, e.g. for the further distribution of the anchors produced by Wostok in Russia for the fastening of thermal insulation. Thus, deliveries to Russia by companies of the EJOT Group will now also end. In addition, we have negotiated contractual buy-back arrangements which should enable us to re-enter the market in the event of a fundamental change in Russian policy. Whether this can happen in this way, we cannot foresee today.

  • BUMAX provides reliable stainless steel fastener solution for Swiss high-performance A-Cat catamaran rudder

Posted in Fasteners manufacturers, Industry 4.0, Innovation on Dec 20, 2021

Swiss ship builder Scheurer Bootswerft AG has opted for screws from Swedish specialist fastener maker BUMAX to fix its high-performance catamaran rudders where standard fasteners would simply fail.

    BUMAX A-cat.jpg

High-strength BUMAX 109 screws are being used to fasten the A-Cat catamaran rudders constructed by Scheurer Bootswerft. An A-Cat catamaran has two rudders, and each Scheurer Bootswerft rudder is secured with two BUMAX 109 screws.

BUMAX 109 fasteners have a high molybdenum content which, coupled with unique BUMAX manufacturing processes and sourcing of the highest quality European raw material, makes it the strongest A4 fastener on the market. It offers high corrosion resistance and strength in demanding applications.

The BUMAX 109 is used for water jets, sub-sea equipment, pumps, valves, wind turbines, high-pressure equipment, nuclear plants, submarines, particle accelerators and many other applications where commodity A4 fasteners are inadequate. They provide greater safety and will last significantly longer than standard fasteners. “We originally used standard stainless steel A4 screws to fasten the rudders, but as the rudders come under very high tension when turning through the water at speed, we found that these screws were bending and eventually breaking,” said Aron Steinmann, CEO at Scheurer Bootswerft. “Even a small bend in these fasteners can alter the angle of the rudder, which reduces performance. Importantly, the high-strength BUMAX screws can cope with this high tension to keep the rudder at the correct angle while maintaining corrosion resistance in saltwater environments.”

Scheurer Bootswerft has also found that BUMAX fasteners can cope with sudden impacts, for example when the rudder hits debris in the water.

“The screws fastening the rudder are a simple but essential part of the catamaran as their failure can be the difference between winning or losing a race,” said Steinmann. “They simply cannot be allowed to fail.”

BUMAX is a Swedish manufacturer of premium stainless steel fasteners located in the Swedish “steel belt”. BUMAX is known as the strongest stainless steel bolt in the world – providing optimal safety and reliability to fasteners in the most demanding of applications.

Scheurer Bootswerft AG is a specialist ship builder based in Nidau, northwest Switzerland. The company has built A-Cat catamaran for regatta around the world for around 40 years. The A-Cat sailing class, often abbreviated to A-Cat, is a development class sailing catamaran for singlehanded racing.
