  • FASTENER POLAND® International Trade Fair for Fastener and Fixing Technology

Posted in Fairs and exhibitions, Fastener distribution, Fastener suppliers, Fasteners manufacturers on Jul 17, 2023

The current year is undoubtedly a period full of challenges for the fastener industry. The complicated political and economic situation, problems related to supply chains and the progressive slowdown on the construction market mean that entrepreneurs once again have to face various challenges. However, industry reports show that despite the difficulties, the industry has a chance for further development, and in the long run, entrepreneurs will be able to turn the current turmoil into profit. It is worth remembering and planning participation in the 6th edition of the FASTENER POLAND® International Trade Fair for Fastener and Fixing Technology, which will take place on October 18-19, invariably at EXPO Krakow.

Exhibitors and visitors from over a dozen countries, industry news and premieres, many hours of talks, expert conferences, B2B meetings - this is what the FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair in Krakow looked like last year. As many as 65% of the Exhibitors came from abroad. This year's edition promises to be equally good, as the participation of Exhibitors has already been confirmed, e.g. from: Czech Republic, Sweden, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Estonia, Malta, Italy, Hungary, China, Vietnam and Taiwan. The international nature of the event only emphasizes how important trade fair meetings are for the entire industry. And although the fair is an investment, which, especially in difficult times, may seem like a significant burden on the company's budget, its effects are often visible several months after the end of the event. We know this from our regular Exhibitors who return to EXPO Krakow every year to present their offer. Therefore, we encourage you to plan your participation in this year's edition of FASTENER POLAND® Trade Fair now. This gives you the opportunity to choose an attractive booth location and take advantage of additional, free forms of promotion.

  • BUMAX continues to deliver fasteners that are out of this world

Posted in Aerospace fasteners, Fasteners manufacturers, Industry 4.0, Innovation on May 15, 2023

[Åshammar, Sweden, May 12, 2023.] Specialist fastener manufacturer BUMAX has been selected to provide crucial fasteners to be used on the International Space Station (ISS). BUMAX 88 fasteners will be used to secure a new payload going to the ISS to measure the speed of sound.

BUMAX premium fasteners include some of the strongest in the world and are being used in a variety of extremely demanding and cutting-edge scientific applications, such as at the scientific research institute CERN in Switzerland and for the world’s largest optical telescope in northern Chile.

The space sector continues to benefit from the BUMAX fastener range with various applications. BUMAX extra strong and fatigue resistant model 88 has been selected to securely fasten the housing of a new payload on the ISS called Granular Sound.

The customer is OHB System AG, a subsidiary of the European space and technology group OHB SE, under contract of the European Space Agency (ESA). OHB SE is a European multinational technology corporation. Headquartered in Bremen, Germany, the corporation consists of the three business divisions: Space Systems, Aerospace and Digital. At present, OHB is the third largest corporation in Europe's space sector.

”To avoid glass balls flying around the ISS”

Granular Sound is an experiment in space to measure the speed of sound through a cube filled with glass balls (a so-called package) in microgravity at different package pressures. The experiment uses thousands of glass balls to simulate granular media like sand or concrete.

“The housing of this package will be securely fastened by BUMAX 88 fasteners to avoid the balls from flying around the ISS,” said Lukas Pfeiffer, Project Manager & Systems Engineer at OHB System AG. “The microgravity experiment will provide valuable data for various terrestrial and space applications – from more effective concrete processing to 3D printing in space or on the moon.”

The enhanced properties of BUMAX 88 fasteners are achieved through a combination of unique BUMAX manufacturing processes and the highest quality European steel.

    Monitoring air quality for astronauts

Since January 2022, BUMAX 88 screws have also been used for the ANITA-2 trace gas monitoring system to ensure good air quality for the ISS astronauts. The system has been simultaneously measuring more than 40 gases every six minutes on the ISS. The system was developed by OHB System AG. BUMAX 88 screws were used for the ANITA-2 payload to securely seal a safety containment and fasten crucial optical components.

“Being trusted with supplying fasteners for projects such as CERN and ISS, which are essential to the evolution of mankind, is of course a source of immense pride and a testament to the quality of our products and BUMAX as a whole,” said Lars Holm, Managing Director, BUMAX. “Being chosen again and again for the most demanding applications means that all our existing and new customers can rest assured that they are getting the best of the best.

The International Space Station was launched in 1998 to gain more knowledge about space. It is crewed by up to seven people. The ISS orbits the Earth at an altitude of 400 kilometers and a speed of 28,000 km/h, which means it orbits the Earth every 90 minutes.

  • Bulten streamlines its distribution chain

Posted in Fasteners manufacturers on Jan 12, 2023

As part of Bulten’s strategy to maintain a strong operational platform, the company has reviewed its global distribution chain. This has prompted a decision to close one of the two logistics centers in Sweden. The cost of the closure amounts to approximately SEK 1.5 million.

Aiming to bring about more efficient logistics in order to reduce lead times, and streamline processes, while also reducing costs and environmental impact, Bulten has reviewed its global distribution chain. Utilizing capacity in the warehouses close to production units to a greater extent, enables a more efficient supply chain. Accordingly, significant investments have been made in a new warehouse near Bulten’s factory in Germany, and in a new surface treatment plant and a logistics center in Poland. The streamlining will involve the closure of Bulten’s logistics center in Gothenburg, one of the company’s two such centers in Sweden.

“Streamlining the distribution chain will allow better transportation flows and thereby also reduce environmental impact. We also reduce costs and capital tied up,” says Anders Nyström, President and CEO of Bulten.

The goods flows that previously passed through Bulten’s logistics center in Gothenburg will now be handled by the center in Hallstahammar, Sweden, and by the above-mentioned logistics centers in Germany and Poland. Ten employees will be affected and trade union negotiations have been initiated. The closure is planned for completion by the end of the second quarter of 2023.

  • European Commission imposes anti-dumping measures on fasteners from China

Posted in Fastener distribution, Fasteners manufacturers on Mar 07, 2022

Today the European Commission published a regulation imposing anti-dumping duties on certain iron or steel fasteners imported from China. Duties have been set between 22.1% and 86.5%. The measures follow an investigation which showed the presence of significant dumping on the market, with Chinese imports heavily undercutting European sales prices and therefore injuring the European fasteners industry.

Fasteners are essential elements for a vast variety of industries, from simple screws in “do-it-yourself” kits to high-end applications in the car, aviation and electrical industries. The EU fasteners industry is worth €3.2 billion, with one tenth imported from China. EU producers of fasteners, who are mostly SMEs, employ more than 20,000 people across Europe in countries such as Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Sweden and Spain.

The anti-dumping measures imposed today will re-establish a level playing field by taking away the unfair competition caused by the price dumping, allowing EU producers of fasteners to compete in the EU market on an equal footing with the imported fasteners. This will ensure that there is continued and healthy production in the EU of fasteners of all ranges, including those used in high tech sectors like the automotive and car industries.

The anti-dumping measures imposed today will have a limited impact on EU users of fasteners. For the vast majority, fasteners represent only a minor part of the total cost of their final product. A shortage of fasteners is also not expected following the introduction of measures, since the EU industry has a large spare production capacity.
